About Liza's Legacy
In the fall of 2004, the Capital Region was shocked by the brutal murder of beautiful Liza Warner, a 29-year-old hairdresser at Ania's Salon in Guilderland. Liza was beautiful, vivacious and full of life and spirit, and her murder affected not only to those who knew her, but by all who learned of this terrible tragedy.
Liza was a very dear friend of the Singers, and they too were largely touched by the tragedy. In her memory, Singer's Jewelers decided to create a piece of jewelry that would become a lasting symbol of hope for domestic violence victims and their families.
Deciding that a pin would be the most universal item, Singer's Jewelers reached out to local high school students to design the pin, to be called Liza's Legacy. The students were basically given free reign with their designs - all they were told was that the design had to be simple and easily recreated into a pin. Additionally, by reaching out to the schools, it allowed teachers the opportunity to teach their students about the perils of domestic violence, which unfortunately is having an increasing effect on our teenage population.
The winning design was done by Kelly Pane, a junior at Mohonasen High School. Kelly’s original design, entitled Loves Me, Loves Me Not, was crafted into a pin that will be sold exclusively at Singer’s Jewelers. All profits from the pin will be donated to the Liza’s Legacy Foundation, benefiting victims of domestic violence.
The winning design was selected from 31 entries from 23 students, stemming from five different Capital Region schools. The pin will be available in 14K gold and enamel as well as a version created in base metal and enamel, affordable for everyone. In the future, the design will be created in tie-tacs and charms.
Additionally, five runners-up designs will be created into gift cards to be sold at Singer’s Jewelers. Singer’s Jewelers would like to sincerely thank all participants in the Liza’s Legacy pin design contest.
The Liza’s Legacy pin will be available at Singer’s Jewelers this fall. To be added to our mailing list for the Liza’s Legacy pin, please click here to contact us.
