2005 marks the 50th anniversary of Singer’s Jewelers. We are celebrating all year long, and we'd like you to know the story of how we began ...

Master watchmaker Abraham Singer and his wife, Rita, founded Singer’s Jewelers in Troy, New York in 1955. Mr. Singer received his training as a watchmaker in Glasgow, Scotland and he is a Guild Member of the British Horological Institute. The principal product of Singer’s Jewelers today is quality jewelry, watches and clocks; however, the mix of merchandise expands and contracts according to the demands of our clientele. Over the years we have carried everything from diamonds and gold to binoculars and transistor radios, and from fine watches and clocks to sewing machines (but we’re no relation to the brand name “SINGER SEWING MACHINES”) and china, crystal, and flatware.

Jeffrey Singer (Abe’s son) joined Singer’s Jewelers on a full time basis in 1983, but today, at age 51, he half-jokingly boasts that he has been in the business for 43 years. He actually began working part time in the store when he was 8 years old. Linda joined Singer’s Jewelers in March of 1990, the day after she became engaged to Jeffrey. The two opened the current store on Western Avenue in Albany, New York in 1995.

While Jeff spent the next several years dividing his time between the two stores, Linda developed the new location and a whole new community of friends and customers for Singer’s Jewelers. In the new store, she had the opportunity to experiment with new styles and new suppliers, and today she chooses nearly all of the jewelry. Linda and Jeffrey Singer became owners of Singer’s Jewelers in 2001, and have since consolidated all operations into the Albany location.

Today, not only will you find Linda and Jeffrey Singer on any given day at Singer's Jewelers, but you will also find their son Daniel behind the counter. Daniel marks the third generation of Singers to take part in Singer's Jewelers, continuing the tradition started by Abe in 1955.

The Singers have developed relationships with some of the best designers and manufacturers in the industry, and their collection consists of a balance between classic styles and an array of the hottest, most up-to-date colors and styles. Their philosophy is simple: whether you buy an item for ten dollars or ten thousand dollars, it has to be the best quality and the best styled ten dollar or ten thousand dollar item available. The Singers search far and wide to purchase their exciting inventory, and they will always take the time you need to help you choose just the right item for you or your loved ones.

The sales, repair and administrative staff at Singer’s Jewelers come from all over the country. Their educational and experiential backgrounds make it possible for us to present a variety of perspectives to our customers. You will always find the staff to be friendly and willing to offer their assistance.

Jeffrey Singer is a graduate of Troy High School, Colgate University, and the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater. He holds the title of Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America. He has served as a board member and Vice President of the New York State Jewelers Association, as well as being appointed to several other boards of directors. He is active in civic and religious organizations, and he is also a member of the Masons and Shriners.

Linda Singer is a graduate of Schalmont High School in Schenectady, New York and the State University of New York at Cobleskill with a degree in management. She has held directorships on several boards of directors including the Hartland School. She is very active as a volunteer in civic and religious groups, including the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce. Linda also gets most of the credit for bringing up two wonderful children, Amanda and Daniel Singer.

Our customers are delighted to meet the Singer’s Jewelers mascot, Jessica Jewel. Jessie, our Giant Schnauzer, can be seen at the store most days. She’s always hard at work greeting and playing with customers and their children, or crashed out on the floor demonstrating the art of total relaxation.

At Singer's Jewelers, we value the relationships we have cultivated with our customers. Though you may enter our store as a customer, you will leave as our friend. Please take the time to peruse our website, and come in and visit us again soon.
