The Singer family is a third generation jewelry business, founded by Abraham Singer 53 years ago in Troy. In 1995, son Jeffrey and his wife Linda opened their location at 1704 Western Ave. Daniel, Jeffrey and Linda’s son, is the third generation to enter the businesses as the store’s Sales Manager. In December 2009, the store was moved to a stand alone store to better serve their customers at 1890 Western Avenue in Guilderland. The other family “members” you will see are Jessie and Joey the official mascots of the store. Jessie is a Giant Schnauzer and Joey is a Miniature Schnauzer, who are typically adorned in another line Singer’s offers, “Jessie’s Jewels”, for the stylish, pampered pooch in your life! Master watchmaker Abraham Singer and his wife, Rita, founded Singer’s Jewelers in Troy, New York in 1955. Mr. Singer received his training as a watchmaker in Glasgow, Scotland and he is a Guild Member of the British Horological Institute. The principal product of Singer’s Jewelers today is quality jewelry, watches and clocks; however, the mix of merchandise expands and contracts according to the demands of our clientele. Over the years we have carried everything from diamonds and gold to binoculars and transistor radios, and from fine watches and clocks to sewing machines (but we’re no relation to the brand name “SINGER SEWING MACHINES”) and china, crystal, and flatware. Jeffrey Singer (Abe’s son) joined Singer’s Jewelers on a full time basis in 1983, but jokes that he has been working part time in the store when he was 8 years old. Linda joined Singer’s Jewelers in March of 1990, the day after she became engaged to Jeffrey. The two opened their store atat 1704 Western Avenue in Albany, New York in 1995. In 2008 they moved to their current location at 1890 Western Avenue to a brand new facility to better serve their customers. While Jeff spent the next several years dividing his time between the two stores, Linda developed the new location and a whole new community of friends and customers for Singer’s Jewelers. In the new store, she had the opportunity to experiment with new styles and new suppliers, and today she chooses nearly all of the jewelry. Linda and Jeffrey Singer became owners of Singer’s Jewelers in 2001, and have since consolidated all operations into the Albany location. Today, not only will you find Linda and Jeffrey Singer on any given day at Singer's Jewelers, but you will also find their son Daniel behind the counter. Daniel marks the third generation of Singers to take part in Singer's Jewelers, continuing the tradition started by Abe in 1955. The sales, repair and administrative staff at Singer’s Jewelers come from all over the country. Their educational and experiential backgrounds make it possible for us to present a variety of perspectives to our customers. You will always find the staff to be friendly and willing to offer their assistance. Jeffrey Singer is a graduate of Troy High School, Colgate University, and the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater. He holds the title of Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America. He has served as a board member and Vice President of the New York State Jewelers Association, as well as being appointed to several other boards of directors. He is active in civic and religious organizations, and he is also a member of the Masons and Shriners. Linda Singer is a graduate of Schalmont High School in Schenectady, New York and the State University of New York at Cobleskill with a degree in management. She has held directorships on several boards of directors including the Hartland School. She is very active as a volunteer in civic and religious groups, including the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce. Linda is the founder and president of Liza’s Legacy Foundation. Linda also gets most of the credit for bringing up two wonderful children, Amanda and Daniel Singer. At Singer's Jewelers, we value the relationships we have cultivated with our customers. Though you may enter our store as a customer, you will leave as our friend. Please take the time to peruse our website, and come in and visit us again soon. |
